Smart Pricing Killing Your AdSense Earnings?

6:42 AM Labels: , , , , , , , 0 Comments »
When Google first started, you basically just earned a certain percentage of whatever the AdWords advertiser was paying per click. It was pretty simple. If the advertiser paid $1.00 per click and if you as a publisher were earnings 50% of that, you made $0.50. Easy. Google started to realize, though, that all clicks were not created equal.

Clicks from some sites were more valuable than others, at least that’s what they figured. So they came up with an alogorithm, a mathmatical equation for determining how valuable your AdSense account, sites and pages are, and use that equation to determine what percentage you get per click.

Speculation Galore

Smart Pricing has triggered a HUGE amount of speculation on the part of AdSense publishers. Google is notorious for having very little to say about the way its algorithms work. Their thinking is that the less people know about it, the less chance they are going to be able to cheat the system.

This lack of communication has caused all kinds of speculation about how Smart Pricing works, what it looks for, etc. Nobody knows exactly how it works, but I’ve got hundreds of websites, and track everything. I’ve learned a few things about what Smart Pricing seems to like and what it seems to not like.

What We Know For Sure

The one piece of information that Google has given out about Smart Pricing is that it takes into account how well the visitors from your site who click on the ads convert into customers for the advertiser. In a perfect system this would be all of the information that Google used. If your clicks converted well, you would be well paid. If they converted badly, you would be paid less per click.

However, AdWords advertisers are not required to reveal their conversion data to Google. Google gives them that ability, but a lot of advertisers do not use it, so Google has to try and “guess” at whether or not your clicks are converting for those advertisers.

What Smart Pricing Seems to Like

Smart pricing definitely loves themed websites. If your websites is devoted to Widgets, and only Widgets, Smart Pricing tends to reward your clicks better. The more narrow your targetting, the better. However, Smart Pricing does not seem to penalize sites that have a group of related topics.

So, for example, if your site is themed around Widgets but has content related to Red Widgets, Blue Widgets, Green Widgets, Building Widgets and Used Widgets, Smart Pricing seems to favor that. If you have themed topics, it’s appears to be best to seperate them into subdomains or subdirectories. So don’t put your articles on Red and Green widgets where they can be found like so:

http://www.mywidgets.com/redwidgets.html
http://www.mywidgets.com/greenwidgets.html

Put them like this:

http://www.mywidgets.com/redwidgets/
http://www.mywidgets.com/greenwidgets/

Or better still:

http://redwidgets.mywidgets.com/
http://greenwidgets.mywidgets.com/

In line with theming, having a domain name with your keywords in it also appears to be favored by Smart Pricing. So the “mywidgets.com” example used above is a good one. Having a domain like “www.someunrelatedsite.com” seems to draw penalties from Smart Pricing. So make your domain name match your theme, and split up your content into related topics in different subdirectories or subdomains.

What Smart Pricing Seems To Hate

The opposite of what Smart Pricing likes, it hates. Having too many topics on the same site really seems to draw penalties. Having a domain name that has nothing to do with the topic of your site seems to draw penalties. And, as discussed before, if your site does not convert well, you’ll get hit with Smart Pricing penalties. You can avoid a bad conversion rate by only focusing on quality traffic to your site.

Get traffic from Search Engines and links from sites about topics related to yours. Avoid cheap traffic brokers like the plague! They send lousy traffic (most of which is fake “bot-generated” traffic anyway and won’t earn you a dime). You might be tempted to try it out, but beware: zmart Pricing appears to calculate your “value” once a week or so. That means that if you goof, for the next week you’ll get lousy paying clicks. It’s best to get it right from the get-go and avoid those mistakes.

Is Smart Pricing Fair To Publishers?

That’s an interesting question that I’ve read debated a lot. Some say that it shouldn’t be up to the publisher to convert the traffic, it should be up to the vendor. And if the vendor’s site converts badly in general, the publisher will get penalized. Whether that’s true or not I don’t know only Google knows.

Other’s say Smart Pricing was needed to help advertisers maintain a good ROI (return on investment). They say that “bad” traffic that doesn’t convert well should not cost as much as “good” traffic that does.

Regardless of what anybody thinks about it, or whether it works or not, Google has implemented Smart Pricing. So you’ve got to know how to work with it to maximize your earnings. Following the advice outlined above from the start will help you to keep your click values high.

Search for the Perfect AdSense Site

Ask a writer what the hardest part of writing a book is and you know what he’ll say?

No, not starting…

Stopping.

I have the same feeling . I’m always wondering if I haven’t forgotten something or whether I could give another example or if I could express what I want to say a little more clearly. Long after I’ve finished writing,

I’ll be tweaking and editing and adding and who knows what else until I finally decide it’s time to put it out there.

But with a book, once the work is done, it’s done… until the next edition.

With AdSense, the work is never done.

I think I’ve got my sites pretty well optimized. It took me a long time and a lot of work to get there but they’re now bringing in a pretty impressive CTR and a good income.

And yet, I still want to play with them. I just can’t help but wonder if a little tweak here or a change there would nudge up my CTR an extra half a percentage point and give me a nice little bonus.

Whenever the urge gets too strong, I’ve really got two choices.

I can either sit on my hands until the urge passes so that I don’t mess up a good thing.

Or I can try out my ideas somewhere they won’t do my income any harm if they don’t work. I use a small site for that but you could also use a single web page, provided you used Channels to keep track of the income that page usually brings in and follow the difference.

Not all of the experiments you run are going to work, but I have to say, there’s only one thing that beats coming up with an idea, implementing it and seeing it push up your income.

And that’s having a site that’s so well optimized it can’t produce any more income whatever you do. The only thing better than having one of those, is knowing it.

Anyone think they’ve got one?

Optimizing Adsense For Better Performance and More Money!

6:34 AM 0 Comments »
you want to make money with Google Adsense? I don’t blame you, who doesn’t want residual income! This article will show you how to better optimize Google Adsense to make more money from your web site(s).

Before we get into it, learn more about Google Adsense here:
http://www.google.com/services/adsense_tour/

First and foremost is: Positioning

Where you position your Adsense link boxes and banner ads is extremely important. Trying to make money from the bottom of your pages within your website just won’t cut it. You need to add your Adsense links right in the heart of your template or right in the heart of your content. I would personally suggest both actually.

Adding Adsense in the heart of your template:

Link Units:

Since the introduction of Google Adsense “link units”, we can now add what looks like a “menu system” to compliment our menu system within our website. This is HUGE. Have you ever just clicked on a website and kept clicking on the menu links? I know we all have. By adding a “Google link units” to your menu, you will get more clicks than you thought possible. Try adding the link units near the top for better performance and try creating your link units to match the color of your menu system in place. Once in a while I find myself clicking on a menu link unit without even realizing it which in turn gives more money to the website owner.

Leaderboards & Skyscrapers:

These may very well be your “bread & butter”. I only say this because of the sheer size of these ads units. The best place to add these ad units is obvious; Straight across the very top of your website (leaderboards), and straight down the side of your template (skyscrapers). Anywhere else may not look proper within your template and may look unprofessional.

Square & Rectangle Ad Units:

These are great to compliment the mass amount of content within your website and also within your recommended resources. You want to compliment your content, you don’t want Adsense to BE your content because this will look poor on your part. Adsense is very popular with webmasters; who doesn’t want to make some extra money. However, don’t forget that many of your visitors are also used to seeing Adsense within a website, and need a good reason to click on them.

Square and rectangular units are great to use within articles posted on your website or within your link resources. Try adding your Adsense boxes above your resource links within a page to give your Adsense account that added extra exposure.

Just remember that Google allows up to 3 ad units per page. Using these 3 strategies will help to better optimize Adsense for positioning! Let’s now go onto targeting…

Optimizing Adsense: Taking out non-related ads!

Do you ever wonder how ads like “business card specials” ever get displayed on to your website when your company content is all about baby clothing? Since the introduction of “Adwords Site Targeting”, we now have to keep an eye on the ads being displayed on our website(s). Companies may now specifically target your website for more exposure. There is no restriction whether the website is content related or not, just more marketing exposure for the advertiser.

Filtering Adsense Advertisers:

Within your Adsense manager, you have the option of using the “Competition Filter” which allows us to remove certain websites from the ads being displayed regularly. This is going to be an on-going optimization task in the future. Without filtering the ads being displayed within your website, you might find yourself with ads unrelated to your industry and possibly some ads that have a negative effect within your site.

If you don’t remove all the unwanted ads being displayed on your website, you might end up hurting your Adsense performance online. The more targeted you can get your Google Adsense ads to display on each page, the better your chances at being able to make more money. Try to take a moment every week to study the ads being displayed on your website.

Open up a note pad, or word document and record all the websites you don’t want to be displayed anymore. Add these sites to your “filter list” within your Adsense account.

Remember to add the website (within your filter list) like so: smartads.info - without the www. Adding anything after or before the url will only prevent the company from displaying one of their many ads like so (www.site.com/ads/1.html). This way you stop anything from the entire website from showing up within your Adsense campaign online. The more you optimize your Adsense filter, the better your performance will pick up and the less non-related ads will be displayed on your website.

One constant that holds true with Adsense:

The more pages you have with your Adsense campaign being displayed, the more you WILL make. People who have online networks immediately can profit from Google Adwords because they have the power to add their Adsense boxes & banners onto multiple websites, possibly 1000’s of pages.

Should you add Adsense to your website?

If you own a small company that has a brochure type website that gets maybe 50-100 visitors a day, I recommend NOT adding Adsense to your site. It will never make enough money with that kind of traffic. Remember: Your Adsense campaign needs to make over $100 to get paid out.

If your company receives around 500-1000+ visitors a day, you can now start considering to make money through Google. Adsense is all about numbers. Play the numbers to make more money. In fact, try making goals for yourself to make X amount of dollars through your Adsense account by a certain time. Doing this will only increase your business and make your company more powerful online by increasing the amount of traffic it receives.

For multiple websites, channels are important:

Google allows you to track the performance of multiple websites all in one account which ultimately gives you the ability to track how many visitors you’re getting for each website. It also allows you to work harder on those sites that aren’t up to par.

I consistently look at each individual website channel to work harder at promoting the ones that aren’t performing well. By doing this, we increase the amount of promotion going into the websites that under perform, and in turn eventually increase the business for those websites as well. The more you promote your website, the more the exposure you will ultimately deliver for your Adsense campaign and your company.

Google Search with Adsense:

To top all that off, you can add Google search within your site to give visitors a search function for your content and to allow people to also click on your Adsense program. Please note that for Google search to work, your website and all of its content pages must already be indexed by Google. Adding the Google search bar to your site right away won’t help your visitors at all.

How to Increase Your Adsense Revenue

6:34 AM 0 Comments »
If you’re a webmaster, you’ve probably heard about Google’s Adsense. Perhaps you’re even earning from it already. This article will show you a method to increase your Adsense revenue dramatically.

Google’s Adsense allows webmasters to place links from Google’s Adwords advertisers on their webpages by inserting a special code. When a visitor clicked on a link, the webmaster gets a cut of the profit Google made from the advertiser. The unique feature about Adsense is that the links it generates on your webpage are relevant to your page content. Thus, your keywords and topics become very important determinant for the type of links that will appear on your webpage.

There are only two factors that determine how much a webmaster can make from Adsense. The first factor is the number of visitors who click on the links. The more people who clicked on the links, the more you make. Naturally, this means that the more targetted traffic to the website, the more you’ll make. This is where most webmasters focus their efforts on.

The second factor is the value of the links they clicked on. Here’s where you can make a great difference to your earnings from Adsense and is our focus in this article.

Let’s take a look at how this works:

Suppose you have 1000 visitors to your website and you get 2% conversion, that is 20 people clicked on your Adsense links. Let’s assume that your Adsense links pay you only 50 cents per click. So you earn $10 dollars.

Now let’s see how much this same traffic will make for you if your Adsense links pay you $5 per click. For the same number of clicks, you make $100 dollars. That’s a ten-fold increased in revenue!

Well, that makes sense, you said, but how am going to determine what type of links appear on my webpages?

Good questions!

Here’s where you’ll need to do a little research and here’s a tool to help you do just that.

Go over to http://www.pixelfast.com/overture/ and you’ll get a tool that shows you how much each keyword is worth. While this tool is for Overture’s keywords, we can safely assume that this reflects the keyword values for Googles Adwords as well. Once you’ve found the keywords with high monetary values, you can optimize your webpages for them. This will increase your chances of having these high value keyword links appearing on your webpages.

Some people have actually made extensive researches on Google’s top paying keywords and found that one or two keywords are worth almost $100! However, generally most keywords are valued at between 50 cents and $5 dollars. Some keywords like “internet marketing” may fetch up to $7 dollars and “mortgage” pays up to $10 dollars.

These values may change from time to time but they generally hover around these levels. Naturally, this information is priceless and you’ll have to pay to get it. I feel it is worth every cent you paid for it. You can check it out at:
http://theselfimprovementsite.com/links/top-paying-keywords.html.

And there you have it! A single factor that can radically increase your Adsense revenue!

How to Double Your AdSense Income Instantly

6:33 AM 0 Comments »
As you probably already know, AdSense is revolutionizing the way many infopreneurs are creating revenue from their web site traffic. The reason for this is its simplicity. Through AdSense, revenue is generated when someone simply clicks thru the AdSense ads displayed on the webmasters web site.

In this article I want to give you a few simple ways to dramatically increase your AdSense income.

The bottom line:

To increase AdSense income all you must do is increase the number of click thrus you receive.

There are two ways for you to increase your total number of click thrus. You can either increase your website traffic or you can increase your AdSense click thru rate. Now, getting more traffic would be great, but let’s be honest increasing your web site traffic is much easier said than done. So, let’s focus on increasing your AdSense click thru rate instead.

4 Tips to Increase Click Thru:

Match your AdSense to your website:

You want your AdSense ads to appear as seamless as possible. Your goal is to match every aspect of your AdSense ads to the theme of your website. What you want to do is remove the borders from your AdSense ads and match the background color of the ad to your website.

Additionally, you want to match the color of the AdSense links to the rest of the links on your website plus choose an ad format that makes the ads look seamless.

For example, if your web site has a white background and the default color of your hypertext links is blue you will want to remove the border from your AdSense, make the background white, choose either a square or a rectangle as your ad format instead of a skyscraper or banner, and yep you guessed it… make the links blue.

Placement Matters:

Where you place your AdSense ads is just as important as how they look. Luckily, there are only a few concepts that you need to worry about in order to increase your click through rate.

•The more white space around your ads the better
•The closer to the top of the page the better
•The closer the left of the page the better

or there is another simple way to follow : just clone your blog or site as it is there in

http://www.freelancetesters.blogspot.com

Follow these concepts mentioned here and I can assure you that you will see an increase in your AdSense click thru rate. (It really is that simply!)

Google Search:

Now this is one that I rarely see webmasters take advantage of. The Google AdSense program gives webmasters the ability to add a Google search box to there web site.

Why should you use this function?

Well, when a website visitor chooses to use this search box from your website your AdSense ID will be imbedded in ALL of that visitors Google searches. If that person does 1 search or 50 your AdSense ID will still be imbedded throughout process.

Why is this so great?

If that visitor clicks on any of the sponsored listings while surfing from your web site guess who makes money. YOU! If they hit the back button and click on another ad guess who makes money? YOU! This is absolutely huge.

Through this function you now have the ability to earn multiple click thrus from the same visitor on the site visit. Please don’t overlook how powerful this is. Besides, most of your website traffic will just be browsing anyway, so I why help them find what there looking for and make a little coin along the way?

Tracking:

Just like any other type of marketing, you won’t know what’s working the best for you on your web site unless you track the different things that you’re experimenting with. Set up a few Google AdSense channels for the different ads that you’ll be placing on your website. Then just see which channels are working the best and stick to those.

That’s it!

Follow the tips above and I can assure you that you will absolutely double your AdSense click thru rate and your AdSense income. The best part about the four tips I’ve shared here is that you can put them into action immediately and see how they will work on your website right now. Who knows… you could be making twice as much by tomorrow by just making a few simple tweaks here and there.

Good Luck!

Adsense Tips to Explode Your Online Profits

6:32 AM 0 Comments »
There are many adsense tips floating around the internet. Here are some adsense tips that can drastically increase your CTR (click-through-rate) and your profits. These are simple changes that only take a few minutes to implement but can make drastic changes to your bottom line.

Lots of people say to make your ads blend in. However, some people are having a lot of success by making their links stand out. The most effective style seems to be having your links Amazon.com blue, while your other links are a less-noticeable color. A good example can be seen at www.lockergnome.com

Another tactic that is working very well is placing images directly above your ads. This simple technique has been known to increase CTR by 400%. To keep the images fresh, some people randomize related images on their site using PHP code. You can see an example of these images at

http://www.how-to-make-money-online.info/

Google has cited the 336×280 large rectangle as the most effective ad size. Pay close attention when Google gives advice on how to increase your profits, they have a wealth of statistics and research that back up their findings. However, nothing can replace your own testing. Every site is different.

Place ads where your visitors will likely be focused. Study your web page. Where do your eyes seem to focus? How do your eyes scan over the page. Adsense ads often do well when placed near navigation and other hot spots.

Check out this heat map by Google -

http://www.google.com/support/adsense/bin/static.py?page=tips.html

* Weave your adsense into your content, aligned to the right or left. This is shown at lockergnome.com
* Place link units in the top left-hand corner. This part of the website has shown to be clicked on more than any other part of the page. You can see an example at lockergnome.com. (Look at the links at the top, towards the left in blue.) This is the most valuable piece of real estate on your web page.
* Take advantage of the “alternate URL” feature to avoid Public Service Ads that seep money away from your website.
* One of the best things you can do is add additional pages to your site. A web site with thousands of pages and tons of content often does very well in the search engines. You can get free content from article directories. You could also use public domain content, which is a favorite tactic of John Reese. Or, you could use content in the creative commons. This is getting easier than ever now that Yahoo and others have created a search engine specifically for content in the creative commons.

Succeeding with adsense is largely determined by the amount of traffic to your site. However, there are many adsense tricks that you can employ to get the most revenue possible out of your site. Often times, this means doubling, tripling, or even quadrupling your earnings. The key is to find out what works for your web site. Testing and tracking is the key to increased revenue!

3 Steps To Explode Your Google Adsense And Affiliate Commissions

6:29 AM 0 Comments »
Content as we know it is the Life-Blood or FUEL, if you will, of the Internet. That was and still is the Internets sole purpose, except only now it’s commercialized, giving the online entrepreneur the world at their fingers tips.

And the facts are that usually when people first come online it’s not to go purchase something, it’s to look for Information that will answer a question they might have about a particular product they’re interested in and/or to a problem they are dealing with and are searching for a solution.

Ask yourself this, “Why do I go online?”

Does it resemble anything like what I just stated?

Only you can answer that.

These are simply the facts with out a doubt… Period!

Now that you have an idea of WHY people come online, I’m now going to explain to you how you can…

“Explode Your Google Adsense and Affiliate Commissions Through Niche Blog Content Sites”

Did you notice the last two words within the quotations?

That’s right, Content Sites.

What are Content Sites?

I think it’s pretty self explanatory but the basic definition of a Content Site is this - it’s a site that contains targeted content that targets a particular niche or many niches (niche examples: cars, fitness, hobbies, etc.)

Not quite up to speed on what a blog is, here’s a quick definition of a blog - a blog(A.K.A. Web-Log) is simply a place to go and post your personal thoughts that you can share with your subscribers and/or readership and receive feedback.

Now that you know the basic definitions of a Content Site and a Blog lets continue.

Content Sites can contain Hundreds-to-Thousands of pages of keyword rich content, which by the way is exactly what the Search Engines love and will come back for if New content is added on a frequent basis giving the owner of that site lots of opportunity to benefit from the Free traffic inwhich the content pages, or what I like to
call Feeder Pages, generate.

So, now that you have an idea of what a Content Site and a Blog is it’s now time to tell you how you can build your own Niche Blog Content Site Empire, no matter what your niche is, using Blogs, Google Adsense and ClickBank affiliate products.

Bare in mind that the steps outlined below are only going to be a summarization of the actual process involved.

So, with that said, here it is.

Step #1. Set up a Blog.

The first step is quite simple. All you have to do is set up a Blog either through…Blogger.com - http://www.blogger.com or…WordPress.org - http://www.wordpress.org

Example : http://www.99blogwidgets.blogspot.com

This blog your setting up is going to be the foundation of your Niche Blog Content Site and is where the rest of the pieces of the puzzle are going to be added to once
you’ve set it up. (Quick Tip: Make sure you use your Target Keywords within your URL of your niche blog and in the Title and Description. VERY Important!)

Once you have your niche blog set up move on to Step #2.

Step #2. Adding your Google Adsense code.

Depending on your experience with scripting and html, it’s now time to add your Google Adsense code to your new niche blog in 3 strategic places.

Google allows you to add 3 Google Adsense blocks only to one page, no more than that, so I recommend one at the Top, one in the Right or Left sidebar depending on the template you choose and one at the Bottom of your blog.

By doing this your almost forcing your reader to click on a link within the Google Adsense block, which is of course, is exactly what you want and where your going to make the money.

The other great thing about Google Adsense is the ads are targeted to the content that you post, giving the reader even more reason to click through.

Here’s a few resources for you that will show you how to add the Google Adsense code to your blog using the services I mentioned above if your not sure how to yourself.

Blogger.com: http://help.blogger.com/bin/answer.py?answer=964

WordPress.org: http://www.acmetech.com/blog/adsense-deluxe/

Simply follow the instructions and you’ll have Google Adsense installed on your niche blog in no time.

Step #3. Find a related ClickBank product.

Now it’s time to go shopping at ClickBank.com - http://www.clickbank.com - for a related information product that targets your niche.

Once there click on the link Earn Commissions at the bottom.

This will bring to to their directory where you’ll find many products to choose from that will target any niche your blog is about.

(Quick Tip: The first 10 listed under each category are the TOP converting programs, meaning… their the ones making the most money.)

If you don’t have a ClickBank.com nickname you’ll have to sign up for one. It’ll only take you a few minutes.

From there, once you’ve chosen a program to join your going to want to collect all the affiliate materials available, like Articles, Banners, Text Links, etc., because your going to place these on your NEW niche blog site with your affiliate link linked to them so when your reader clicks on them and decides to buy the related information, you get the commission.

Well… there you have it, 3 steps to “Explode Your Google Adsense and Affiliate Commissions Through Niche Blog Content Sites”.

Now the only thing left for you to do is to start building an audience by promoting your Blog.

Here’s a few resources for you to get started with.

Remember this is just a summarized version and is only going to give you the basic steps, so good luck to you and your Niche Blog Content Site Empire.
